We are looking for a Strategic Sourcing Specialist to join the New Product Development - Strategic Sourcing Team.

Reporting to the Strategic Sourcing Manager, this new role will support the implementation and delivery of the WMFTG business strategy ‘Expand our addressable market through innovation and technology’ and ‘global excellence in supply chain’

The overall purpose of the role is to deliver effective procurement and sourcing initiatives in support of new product development projects.

The Strategic Sourcing Team is an integral part of our New Product Development Team (NPD Team) and aids the delivery of innovative new products to market. We align the supply base to our long-term business objectives, forging strong, collaborative relationships with our suppliers that add the most value to the organisation. We build sustainability into our global supply chain and achieve the lowest total cost of ownership with minimal supply chain risk throughout the total life cycle of the product.

As a Strategic Sourcing Specialist, you will assist with the sourcing, supplier selection and procurement activity for new product development projects, improving the price, speed and consistency of raw material flow to aid project delivery on time, to budget.

The Strategic Sourcing Team manage every stage of interaction with our external suppliers throughout new product introduction from concept to launch. You will be liaising cross functionally and proactively with all areas of operations, interfacing with NPD Engineering, Quality and Supply Chain Teams to ensure the seamless delivery of a capable supply chain from design into manufacturing sites.

Main role responsibilities

  • influence and effectively manage relationships with key stakeholders by working collaboratively with our supply partners and colleagues globally
  • lead and execute new product tendering, RfQ, supplier adoption, negotiating and contract formulation activities that represent best value for new product introduction
  • conduct regular spend analysis, supplier risk evaluation and supplier performance analysis to help form new product introduction sourcing decisions
  • integrate procurement best practice with supplier development, proactively embedding ESI and enhancing NPI process to support the efficient delivery of NPD projects
  • assist and coach suppliers to ensure they achieve efficient and effective delivery of the NPD project
  • help manage top level new project bill of material integration, oversee stock burn down, obsolescence and phase in and new part introduction
  • communicate with local supply chain teams to ensure effective delivery of component BOM and a supply chain ready platform from launch through to local migration
  • oversee Engineering Change Order (ECO) process and supplier specification and change communication
  • manage the operational order processing for both direct and in-direct products and services required to support new product development
  • manage all sourcing activity within NPD project deadlines against delivery commitments


In addition, you will have the following skills:

  • Be qualified to Advanced Diploma level - Chartered Institute in Procurement & Supply
  • Demonstrable experience of procurement project delivery, commercially minded with the ability to achieve innovative in a past paced environment
  • Experience in supplier relationship management and contract negotiation
  • Experience using an ERP system (knowledge of AX Microsoft Dynamics -Desirable) with the ability to interpret and analyse data
  • Proven experience of effectively implementing Category Management Strategies
  • Experience of high level contract cost negotiation
  • Demonstrable experience of working collaboratively with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong background in procurement in preferably within an Engineering and Manufacturing related environment
