Role Purpose

  • Drive profitable sales growth in Australia and New Zealand, aligned with the Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Group strategy and the Spirax-Sarco Englneering plc (SSE) core values
  • Derive and implement WMFTG strategic objectives as agreed with the Regional MD, APAC
  • Achieve the above through collaborative working across the WMFTG Group including all brands and sectors
  • Assume directorial responsibility for WMFTG Sales Companies within the region
  • Find, develop and manage third-party distribution channels in the region, as and when required

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Meet, or exceed, sales and profit targets for the Australia and New Zealand operation, using all the facilities, sales and marketing resource available within the planned expenditure
  • Ensure the Country Managers, Sales Engineers, re-sellers, representatives and/or distributors and their sales teams are well trained in our product lines, technically and in selling; that they are motivated, and that monitoring systems are put in place to ensure that Sales Engineers selling efficiencies can be increased
  • Ensure all colleagues under your management are striving for the same goals; keeping all your managers and their teams motivated by example
  • Comply with all aspects of Group policy and procedures, as required
  • Ensure regional customer needs are understood and met, growth opportunities identified, and the WMFTG Customer Value Propositions are appropriately presented
  • Work with Group Supply to ensure the appropriate level of factory technical and commercial support is given to Customers, Sales Companies and Distributors in the region 
  • Advise upon and oversee the implementation of new product launches and sector focused marketing campaigns for the region
  • Provide orders and sales forecast updates and business reporting on performance compared to plan and prior year, as required
  • Report to the Regional MD, APAC, for any changes needed to promote an increase in sales, offering insight into new opportunities, market/sector developments, competitor activity, product enhancements and any changes needed for the betterment of WMFTG in the region

Reporting:

  • The General Manager, Australia & New Zealand, presents to the Regional MD, APAC, the regional report monthly, including progress against the planned Key Actions
  • Quarterly, General Manager, ANZ presents to the Regional MD, APAC a full YTD report on the existing sales compared to plan and forecast for the balance of the year, including progress against planned Key Actions

Person Specification

Decision Making:
Ability to make decisions concerning the following:

  • Leading and guiding the Country Managers, Sales Manager, Technical Support and Sales Engineers in daily activity
  • Pricing and other sales strategy
  • Recruitment
  • Justification of the operating budget and proper allocation of resources

Interpersonal Interaction Requirements:

  • Management and leadership skills to lead sales organisation to achieve sales targets
  • Management and leadership skills to lead manufacturing organisation to achieve production targets
  • Needs to work well with WMFTG co-workers, reps/distributors, and customers, and achieve desired results. The individual will need to motivate and guide the selling and management teams that surround him
  • Ability to foster relationships with external institutes and organizations to promote interest in the use of our products

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • University degree/Diploma, preferable in Engineering
  • Must have at least 10 years’ general and sales management experience; prefer direct sales experience
  • Prefer experience in process engineering
  • Prefer management experience pertaining to technical personnel and pump products

Computer competencies required for this position:

  • Computer literate, able to create correspondence in Word
  • Able to produce and/or adapt PowerPoint presentations
  • Able to use Excel/Access to analyze, collate, and present data
  • Able to use Outlook for e-mail and appointment tracking purposes
  • Has knowledge of and some experience working with a CRM (customer relation management system)
  • Must continue to grow with existing technology in an effort to become increasingly efficient
  • Specific requirements for completing essential functions of the position:
  • Ability and willingness to travel nationally and internationally on a regular basis, as required

  • Initially, there will be 6 reports for this role
  • Priorities will be agreed with the Regional Director, APAC
